“A third-grader struggled with spelling despite efforts to spell all his weekly words correctly. One staff member even went as far as saying she would dye her hair the color of his choice if he got a 100% on his test. He studied hard with a volunteer that week and updated the staff member on his progress. His practice test on Thursday was perfect – he had achieved his goal of 100%, but could he repeat the score on the actual test. He was confident enough to pick the color of the hair dye before leaving the program on Thursday. Usually, the teacher does not return tests until the fowling Monday, but she also knew the deal. She made an exception for this test and notified us of his perfect score. True to her word, the staff member dyed her hair pink!

Sometimes it is a soft voice that is encouraging, other times it is pink hair, most importantly this student gained some much-needed self-confidence.”
